How to Check if Windows 8 is 32-bit or 64-bit Version

Many people are not able to determine whether their computer 32 bit or 64 bit. Knowing this information is important, for example if you are going to buy a piece of software and your computer is 64-bit, you have to choose 64-bit software so its performance can be optimized.

To check and determine your computer is running 32-bit (Microsoft labels it as x86) or 64-bit version of Windows 8, follow the steps below:

Method 1

  1. On the Start Screen, click Desktop tile

  2. Press Win key (Windows logo key) + i, then click PC info

  3. You can determine whether the computer is running a 32-bit version or 64-bit version of Windows 8.

  • If “64-bit Operating System” is listed next to System type, you’re running the 64-bit version of Windows 8.

  • If “32-bit Operating System” is listed next to System type, you’re running the 32-bit version of Windows 8.

Method 2

  1. On the Start Screen, press Win key (Windows logo key) + X, notice the menu of administrative tools in the lower-left
    corner of the screen, click System

  3. You can determine whether the computer is running a 32-bit version or 64-bit version of Windows 8.
